I wanted to be a photographer. As David Bailey apparently once said all you have to do was grow your hair a bit longer, be rude to people and buy a Pentax. As a teenager the first two came naturally and I saved up for the third! My first camera was a Zenit B! So I have been taking photographs, mostly not very well! for over 30 years, including Lots of black and white darkroom work and slide film processing in the pre-digital age. I once had the good fortune to have a landscape photograph used for the cover of a national outdoor magazine. I have recently re-awakened my interest in the digital age. I dont really like using non SLR cameras, so tend to buy the more portable ones so I don't get too much backache! Unfortunately like many I decided photography was a rather hard way to earn a living so it has always been a hobby.
I combine my passion for photography with my other long term passion for aviation, particularly large propeller aircraft.
My photography interest is very general include aircraft, travel photography, wildlife, nostalgia, people and street candids, and informal portraits of friends and family. Going in a studio largely bores me so you wont find many studio images here, its outdoor photography that grabs me.
I currently use a Nikon D7000 with a backup D60 with a wide range of Nikon and Sigma lenses. I also use a Sony Cybershot or Apple Iphone for those unprepared moments! I use an Apple Mac for post production. I enjoy testing my images on competitions in a photo club. I've had some successes in local and national competitions, mostly with different images to the ones that do best on Flickr! I'm a strong believer that its he photographer not he gear at makes an image!
