As of mid-May 2007, I'm now a proud owner of a half-decent entry level digicam that was affordable:

Kodak Z612, 12x zoom, 6.1mp EasyShare with a gig of memory which gives me over 500 shots, and over 200 on the highest possible settings. Not sure how much video. There are something like 14 scene settings, with PASM modes, movie mode, etc. Look it up online if you care. I paid $250 for it at Staples, Canada.
