I like photographing people.
Cameras and lenses are tools to be used.
Primes are good.
I've tried lots and lots of film cameras over the years- 35mm, 120, plastic, SLR, rangefinder, TLR, folding, polaroid.
It's good to have not much gear. Currently:
Ikoflex 1a
Rolleicord Vb
Nikon FM3A
Nikon F3HP
Vredeborch Felica
Interests: drinking, dancing with attractive women, social psychology, anthropology, cutting down forests and planting the land.
Originally from the South Island, I lived in Wellington before coming to Melbourne.
The most important aspect of photography I reckon is access. To get over that barbed wire fence to get all angles on that rusted shed, or live in an old Paris apartment. And if you're lucky, lots of beauties or beasts in your friendship circle that will allow their pictures to be taken. But most of the world is inbetween.

Mike's b&w film work is inspirational - it has inspired me to go further and explore more of what can be achieved with manual analogue cameras. In his shots, he captures great mood and atmosphere and Mike's candid captures are truly special. Love your work Mike.
