Mike constantly amazes me with his encyclopedic knowledge of plants, especially orchids, cactus and succulents. His camera is his media for capturing his love of nature in it's variety of forms, textures and colors and sharing what caught his eye with those of us fortunate enough to know him. Mike's sense of adventure and thirst for enjoying life to the fullest is but part of his appeal. Mike has varied interests that include the fine art of shibori, rock climbing or seeking out the smallest orchid that may have escaped his camera lense. Mike's wit, sense of humor, and mischievious nature never fails to make me laugh and when he's in a more serious mood, he displays wisdom way beyond his years. While I have known Mike for less than a year, he makes me feel like we've been friends for many years, and with any luck, that will be my good fortune. I look forward every day when I log onto Flickr to see what new journeys Mike has taken and the digital souvenirs from those travels that he has brought back to share with us.

Mike is one of those exuberant and irrepressible individuals to whom one immediately gravitates. His sense of humor is infectious; his joie de vivre is palpable and super-abundant; and his photography is just plain wonderful. Mike's knowledge of botany seems almost encyclopedic -- a rare characteristic in one his age -- and he observes the minutiae of growth and decay with a keen, clear-eyed accuracy that infuses each of his plant images not only with compositional skill and detail, but with "soul." If I were a plant, there's no one I'd rather be photographed by! There seems to be no activity (from rock-climbing and hiking to shibori-dyeing and greenhouse construction) at which Mike doesn't excel and to which he cannot turn his considerable talents and energies. Plus -- he's a great guy, a woofy "cub," and mischievous as all get-out! I count myself very lucky to know him both as a buddy, and a fellow-traveller on this photographic journey through life. Love ya, Mike!
