I'm an Irishman living in Castilla la Mancha since 1998 and for just over twelve years I worked offshore as a geophysicist.

 

I now run birding and wildlife tours in central Spain through my business, Oretani Wildlife, and provide accommodation in a four bedroom house in the quiet village of Picón ideally located between Cabañeros National Park and the Tablas of Daimiel National Park, both of which are approximately 40km each side of Picón.

 

The village is just 400 metres from the Guadiana River and is surrounded by birdlife such as Eagle, Scops and Little Owls; Marsh, Hen and Montagu's Harrier; Golden, Booted and Spanish Imperial Eagle; Little Bustard, Stone Curlew, Nightjars, Egrets, Herons and waterfowl. The volcanic region of the Campo de Calatrava nearby is also excellent for Great Bustards, Pin-tailed and Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Calandra Larks and many other species.

 

In short, our guest house, Casa Oretani, is an excellent base from which to visit the Sierra, Steppe and Wetlands of central Spain.
