I won a monster drawing contest in first grade, and have never been able to live up to that early success. I also invented a wishing machine - that didn't work out either. In despair, I earned an MFA from the University of San Francisco and a BA from Sarah Lawrence College. My work has appeared in More Bridges: The 2007 San Francisco Writers Conference Anthology, Switchback, Phoenix, Concrete, Sarah Lawrence Review, Eggbox, Fork, Knife & Spoon, Ignation, Subrevolt, and elsewhere. I won the "Best Writing Award" at the 2007 SFWC Volunteer Writing Contest. Joe regularly performs at music and literary events. I haven't quit my day (or night) jobs yet. These gigs consist (or have recently consisted) of teaching SAT English and Hip Hop Lyrical Analysis to high school kids, teaching Performance Poetry to grade school students, acting as a bouncer at an underground fetish club and other quirky venues/events in SF, and academic grants administration.
