Governed by volunteers and supported by individuals and communities, the American Red Cross is the single largest supplier of blood products to hospitals throughout the U.S. While local needs are always met first, the Red Cross helps ensure no patient goes without blood, no matter where or when he or she needs it. In addition to supplying nearly half of the nation’s blood, the Red Cross teaches lifesaving skills; provides shelter, food and clothing to victims of disasters; ministers international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families.
