My name is Mick. I live in Queens NYC. I've been a barber for 20 years and work 6 days a week. Somehow I find the time to take pictures. I took basic photography at the School of Visual Arts while studying graphic design. While growing up my father was alway the family photographer. Somehow it passed on to me. At first I picked the camera to photograph things or places I wanted to draw or paint. But I couldn't afford to develop film at the time. Digital camera were coming out but they weren't affordable. And I didn't think to 2 megapixels was so great. I figured I'd wait for 8 megapixels. I dropped school and opens my own barbershop in 1996. Six years ago I bought a 6 megapixel Nikon Coolpix point and shoot. 3 years ago my girlfriend bought me a Canon SXIS 8 megapixel. I thought I had a serious camera then. Over a year ago I married my girlfriend and as a wedding gift she bought me the Canon 7D. I thought I knew everything about cameras. In the last few months I've been soaking my brains about everything photography. Learning about lenses, lights and software to fine tune my work. Thanks to school I learned a lot about Adobe Photoshop. In the last 6 months I'm turning my hobby into a business. I've done headshots, shot a model in a studio and a huge sweet sixteen. I'm also going to do a small wedding this summer. I know I need a second camera and more lenses. I really hope to get out of the barbershop business in 2 years and be able to make a living and support a family with photography. As of now I'm doing it for the love. Taking pictures of anything, anywhere and everyday. My camera is always at my side.
