Thank you for visiting my Flickr site. I hope you enjoy viewing my growing collection of photographs.

I have a strong interest in botanical photography. I enjoy capturing the structures, textures and frail elegance of flowers and plants in their natural home or garden setting.

Appreciating the extraordinary visual significance of flowers and plants rests with the viewer's powers of observation; close examination with an eager eye will always be rewarded with a vision of deep beauty and complexity.

A flower's life is very brief; that's part of its beauty, I think. It's ephemeral existence serves as an apt metaphor for the fleeting beauty and transience of life.

Whilst aesthetics are crucial in my photography, so is truth and sensitivity; I am always mindful to create a faithful record of my botanical subjects in my work.

Nothing you see here is AI Generated. I create photographs by the process of capturing light with a camera. For those interested in etymology, the word 'photography' was coined in 1839 by an Englishman, John Herschel, in a paper presented to the Royal Society (proceedings of the Royal Society Meeting, 1839, Vol. IV, No. 37, 14 March). The word 'photography' is a concatenation of its two Hellenic origins: φῶς (phōs, meaning 'light'); and γραφή (graphê, meaning 'drawing'). Together they mean "drawing with light" ― or as another notable Englishman, Henry Fox Talbot, put it, "photogenic drawing" (circa 1834).

My gear comprises a Fujifilm GFX100S camera and two lenses, namely the Fujinon GF 45-100mm f/4 and GF 120mm f/4 Macro. I use DxO PhotoLab for post-processing. I shoot hand-held in RAW 4:3 native aspect ratio. My preferred final ratios are 4:3, 4:5 and 2:1, with the occasional use of 3:2, 5:2 and 16:9. I own a very nice carbon fiber tripod, but I never use it.
