My reason for being here? I wish to offer images pleasing to the eye. This is my small exhibition of the innocent happiness of smiling children and the despair and loneliness of those in hard times or perhaps a high school graduation photo. This is the perfect venue for someone like me.
I've accumulated more than 6.3 million views since October 2009 and am astonished to have accomplicshed that. Luckily, I have many great looking relatives and friends who are willing to be my subjects.
My Flickr family has given me a great amount of encouragement and wonderful comments. Thanks much, it means a lot.
Those of us who have been doing this for a while know the difficulty of producing consistent, high quality, natural looking images. I've worked hard to hone my skills.
Over the years I have gravitated from a hodge-podge series of photos toward natural light and studio portrait photography but still enjoy landscapes, architecture, wildlife, tiny and colorful or interesting things.
I began capturing images as a child using black box cameras; yes, just like those you see in the antiques stores. As a young adult I moved to 35mm film, then progressed to point and shoot digital. It wasn't long before I moved to successive DSLR Canon cameras and various lens. I now shot with a DSLR Canon 70D. Although mostly retired I find time to do high school shoots or do portraits on a regular basis.
I live in a great place to raise kids; few places have open prairie, dense forests, it's own ocean, and the largest inland seaport in the US, not to mention thousands of lakes scattered throughout the area.
I was lucky enough to retire at a young age. My other part time job, if you could call it that, is tutoring and teaching adult computer classes at a area school district. I'm married to a wonderful girl and have two talented and successful children and four wonderful grandchildren.
We often travel to the Caribbean to escape for a short while during the winter which offers different shooting oppertunities, especially those of the Caribbean people. Now and then I will be asked if I ever do nudes. My answer is always the same; while I appreciate the female form it's been done to the point of being redundant. Besides, There is an extremely fine line between tasteful nudes and porn. It's a line I'll never worry about crossing.

Notice the cute freckles.
Capturing candid shots are absolutely necessary if a natural look is what I'm after. I often follow the little ones around snapping away. After a while they really don't notice me or they sometimes play to the camera.
Getting down to their level and talking non stop and teasing a bit not only relaxes them but fosters a variety of emotions that look great for the finished product.
Backgrounds can be either distracting or enhancing. I always look beyond what I'm aiming at and tweak the background in Photo Shop.
