In a nutshell, I take an image when I see something in the scene that is 'other' in some way - more than the literal 'image' itself.

Although I'm as much a gear-head as the next guy, the 'technical aspects' of photography are decidedly secondary but are always somehow there in the background, nagging away.

The 'story' is my primary driver. I want to render an image that makes the viewer stop and think for a moment, or just smile in resonant, inclusive, good humoured rejoicing of the way we are - human. I also want perfect everything else, so I can revel in the pleasures of those ever seductive visual qualities!
