I have been a life-long transport enthusiast and modeller. As a boy I always had model buses around me, and I began serious modelling in my early teens, and still actively build, paint and detail models regularly today.
I took my driving test with a car at 17, my PSV driving test at 21, and my operator CPC exam at 31, passing all three first time. I entered the ranks of preservation in 1975, when I bought my well-known Bedford OB coach MFM 39 'Bosworth' (before I was old enough to drive her on the road). In 1988 I went on to start my own business from the hobby, when I set up Vista Coachways, which I then ran full-time for 20 successful years. I finished daily operations in April 2008, when we "went out in style", running the last two days of operation on our local bus service with class 6 heritage buses of local interest.
After doing my bit for preservation with 'Bosworth' for over 30 years, I sold her in 2006, but she remained local, and I still had the use of her 'on fleet' as often as I wished to drive her, through to 2014. I regard myself as a 'semi-retired bus and coach operator', still actively involved in the industry, and in the world of preservation, but no longer trading on a daily basis.
I have been taking photographs since the early 1970's, and have built up a large collection, mainly of transport subjects. I took colour slides until about 1998, of which I have about 20,000, all carefully filed in titled boxes. I then went on to take prints with my SLR, before moving into the digital age from about 2004. It is my intention that the majority of what I post on Flickr will be scans of slides, as and when I have the time to add a few more.
