A proper testimonial to So Much Ice Cream’s Flickr talents has gone unwritten for far too long. It’s difficult to pigeonhole her pictures…if she sees something that inspires her, she photographs it, whether animal, vegetable or mineral. But she notices things that other people would just miss or simply wouldn’t realise the significance of, and thereby hangs what makes her varied and original portfolio so utterly enthralling. Browse through her photostream, and you’ll find all manner of styles, approaches and subjects. Many of her shots grab you instantly with their appeal, others keep you drifting back to them again and again and again until you realise that what you thought was just a simple snapshot actually has a quiet brilliance simmering away. It’s possible to while away hours just surfing through her images, and each time you do, you know you’ll come across something new. It doesn’t matter how many times you try it…there will always be something freshly fascinating you won’t have spotted before. She truly excels with people though, especially candid or non-posed captures of men, women and children - particularly children - in their natural environment. There’s a strong element of social reportage to her canon…but I’ll only make her blush if I draw comparison with the work of the Farm Security Administration (FSA) photographers and Dorothea Lange in particular. If So Much Ice Cream been around at the time though… In short, she’s a great photographer and, I‘m sure, an inspiration to many more than just me. I wouldn’t be into photography now if it wasn’t for her. And she’s a pretty wonderful person too. Which always helps. Proud to call her a Flickr contact, even prouder to call her my friend. Oh, and Liisoli’s previous testimonial is also spot on. She’s cuuute as well…
