1/1/2026 - Extended Break, Flickr Fixes, WalksInPortland Videos: Happy New Year! I am taking an extended Flickr break, possibly for three months. During this time, I plan to fix links, titles, and tags on my public Flickr account, digitize more photos for my family-only account, and create a collection of virtual walk videos for my new WalksInPortland YouTube Channel. I explain more about the virtual walk videos in this post: 12/18/2025 WalksInPortland Virtual Walk Videos | AI-Generated Videos | Kelly Boesch AI Art.
11/25/2025 - WalksInPortland Photoblog: After 15 years, thousands of miles, and roughly 40,000 photos, I closed and archived my photoblog website. As a result, many references to former photoblog pages in my albums are currently nonfunctional. I plan to fix those over time. In the meantime, about 13,000 photos remain here, and I may share more periodically.
10/1/2025 & 6/1/2025 - 50 Plus Magazine Article, New Adventures Ahead: I was honored to be featured in this Wandering Spirit story. The article marked the end of my 15-year journey showcasing Portland on foot. It feels like the right time for new adventures: spending time with family, traveling, cycling, power walk training, woodworking, home improvement, and exploring new photography genres.
8/1/2025 – Collages, Flickr Engagement, Social Media: Although I’ve stopped posting to my photoblog, I still explore Portland occasionally. I now share collages when many scenes repeat from earlier walks. At times, I set “Date Uploaded” to “Date Created” in my Lightroom Classic publisher plugin, so my posts may not always appear at the top of your feed. I'm also limiting my engagement on Flickr for personal and professional reasons. See Flickr Following, Flickr Groups, and Social Media below.
7/1/2025 - Guide to Portland in Photos: I am creating this large album of past and present photos for residents and visitors. See the album description for more details.
7/31/2024 - PDXToday Article: In this article, Q+A: Take a walk in a Portland photoblogger’s shoes, I shared what inspired me to start blogging. I also wanted to challenge the “Portland is dying!” narrative.
My Flickr Timeline: I have been an avid photographer since 1978 and a Flickr Pro member since 2009. I rebooted this public account in 2019 and also maintain a private account for family photos.
More About: I was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and spent my youth and early adulthood living in both rural and urban areas across the state. Alaska will always be a special place to me. Aside from a one-year job assignment in Louisiana, I’ve lived in Oregon for more than 40 years. Since my photoblog, which included my bio, is now closed, please feel free to reach out if you’d like more specific details about my photography background, education, or career.
Photography Genres: As an introvert, I find photography is a way to communicate what I see and think. Nature, macro, B&W, abstract, and still-life photography are all of particular interest to me.
Photography Themes: Family, travel, outdoor adventures, Portland, quirky “Portlandia” moments, architecture, urban planning, and active and public transportation have been my favorite themes for many years. On my many (1,000+) long (5+ mile) walks across the Portland metro area since 2010, when I don’t do a loop, I have seldom had to drive to get started, thanks to our regional transit system, TriMet.
Flickr Following: I appreciate sincere engagement and follow people of like mind. I do not follow accounts that use scripts or bots to generate automated favorites or comments, as I find the practice disingenuous.
Flickr Groups: In June 2024, I removed my photos from Flickr groups. I feel many groups have outlived their purpose, often lacking moderation or genuine discussion. I may rejoin specific groups in the future if they are active and well-moderated.
Social Media: In 2019, after many years on social media (CompuServe, AOL, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, Twitter), I decided to limit my social media engagement. That decision grew out of my IT career in data warehousing and metadata management, my University of Oregon graduate studies in applied information management, and concerns about surveillance capitalism and social media addiction.
Privacy Matters: I respect personal privacy. I rarely tag individuals or use precise geotags in public photos. If you see a photo here that you would like me to remove, please let me know.
Donations & Downloads: I do not sell my photos, but I am happy to donate them to organizations or individuals upon request. If you are interested in a photo that only appears in a collage, let me know and I can provide temporary access to the high-resolution original.
DMCA Takedowns, CC Licensing, Generative AI: I use Pixsy to monitor usage and issue DMCA takedowns. While I previously used Creative Commons licensing, in mid-2022 I switched to “All Rights Reserved” to discourage for-profit companies from using my content to train generative AI models. I have followed AI developments since my first AI computer science course in the early 1980s.
Wikipedia & Wikimedia Commons: I frequently reference Wikipedia in my photo descriptions. In the future, I may contribute many of my Portland photos to Wikimedia Commons.
