Decades in photogaphy, I'm the son and nephew of two PPA Masters photographers, so I can claim Dektol in my veins. Started shooting with a Speed Graphic in high school, moved to a Minolta Autocord and an old Leica IIIa, and a Mamiya C2 for college. After college, a series of Canon SLRs and a Mamiya 645. Studied portraiture with Philippe Halsman in NYC for a year.
Started a medical ad/CME/PR agency in NYC, and that both provided me with lots of photo ops, but got me out of the darkroom for years. A business opportunity let me purchase at cost a Leica M4P and 50mm Summicron, and I added 2 lenses -- the camera system that's still the best I ever handled, until my new Sony A7III.
But today, despite a huge collection of metal cameras from the 1930s onward, I shoot almost exclusively digital with my A7III, a7II and and A6000. Thanks to my TechArt Pro M to E autofocus adapter, I still shoot with my great 1980s-era Leica M mount, Canon FD and Nikon AiS lenses...but my Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 RXD is on my camera more and more..
My interest always was candid portraits and sports photography, and my two kids (now 31 and 34) provided me with lots of soccer, lacrosse and stage shooting through their high school years. Now they're grown and gone - and my shooting and travel companion Sandy keeps me young and active - and focusing on new subjects. But daughter gave me my first two grandchildren, so my "circle of photographic life" may continue!
So many opportunities!
