My love affair with photography began in the late 1980s and my first SLR was a Pentax camera. I switched to Nikon in the early 90s starting with film cameras until digital came along. I upgraded in 2018 from the Nikon D810 to the D850, which I Love. I still have my Nikon D800E, D300S, D200, D100, 8008S (purchased in the USA), and F90. What can I say, I'm a Nikon user.

I enjoy all forms of photography. Though I started photographing mainly people, I gravitated to nature and macro photography after I attended several workshops in Namaqualand photographing the fields of flowers that bloom each spring. When I moved to Australia in 1999, I fell in love with Newcastle's beautiful beaches and the lake, where I Iive - Lake Macquarie - and diverse surrounds, especially the splendid Hunter Valley. Early on I was influenced by Freeman Patterson, a Canadian photographer who used to run the Namaqualand workshops in the North Western Cape of South Africa. I still love this part of the world and return as often as I can. I love South Africa and Namibia, especially Etosha. Having now retired from my position as Professor of Social Work at the University of Newcastle in 2018, I now have lots of time for photography and to go through old pictures taken down the years. Funny thing is, I always remember who I was with and how I felt when it was taken and that influences how I feel about the image. Powerful thing, emotions.
