I am a human geographer and librarian. After growing up in Missouri and Ohio and earning my bachelors degree in architecture at Ohio State, I traveled to Penn State and the University of Kentucky for my M.S. and my Ph.D. in Geography. I moved to Center City Philadelphia in June of 2001 and began teaching at Temple University that fall. I was an assistant professor in the College of Education at Temple University from the Summer of 2002 until the Summer of 2009. For six of those years I also taught summer abroad courses in Jamaica.

Moving with my partner to Long Island and assuming a staff position at Stony Brook University, I enjoyed the opportunity to explore the area around our residence. Many of my photos are from Comsewogue|Terryville|Port Jefferson Station, New York.

In 2015, we relocated at Kansas City, Missouri with our then two-year-old son.

I have enjoyed the opportunity to network with the colorful group of flickr communitarians, particularly around the commitment to recording otherwise neglected or overlooked landscapes and building bricks-and-mortor infrastructure that supports community engagement. I was a prime mover in the 2011 revitalization of the Long Island Photowalk flickr group and have supported state-based geotagging initiatives. I have also enjoyed opportunities to interact with publishers about rights to reprint my work.
