I started out as an HDR and wide angle freak, but now I like lot's of photo styles, including a bit more natural look. Got my first "real" camera, an EOS 550D, in july 2010 and just can't stop shooting and post processing. Infrared and black-and-white have turned out to get my attention lately.
I have one "normal" EOS 550D, and one that I've converted to only shoot infrared. I converted it by getting a standard IR-pass filter from www.lifepixel.com and spent half-a-day dis-assembling, converting, and assembling the camera. Scary... But it worked :) I used this excellent guide: ir-photo.net/ir_550dmod.html
A short summary of my IR post processing:
1. Minor exposure/saturation/contrast/cropping/rotation/white balance adjustments in Canon Digital Photo Professional RAW converter. (The main white balance adjustment is made in the camera by using custom white balance from shot of grass)
2. Major adjustments in NIK Software Viveza or Silver Efex Pro. Like turn around hue to decide sky/tree colors, increase contrast and structure, and selective editing.
3. Moderate editing in GIMP. Like layer effects, touch up, lighting, selective color balance.
