We live in a frenzied world that hurries us through the minutes of each day, rather than allowing us an opportunity to "live in the moment". Photography affords us an opportunity to capture, pause, and reflect on precious moments that will never come again. To me, its role in allowing us to see and be touched by the many facets of our modern world is greater than ever before.
I have always been interested in photography and over the past year, have been pursuing my hobby with great fervor. I like to continually learn and the many disciplines of this art form carry their own nuances and techniques: portraiture; landscape; wildlife; still life; and, macro.
Photographers are artists. We paint with light, shadow, and colour. We "see" with our mind's eye. We are, in a sense, "picture thinkers", who try to reflect our sensory-based perceptions of reality through the sensors and actuators of our photographic equipment.
The world is a beautiful, wondrous, and mysterious place. I hope that my desire to learn and grow in this craft also continues to fuel my personal evolution as an individual. Is it not true that when we begin to see, capture, and appreciate the beauty around us, we become more connected to it and more respectful of it?
I believe that Flickr can allow us to build relationships and gain interesting perspectives from around the world through mutual sharing and respect. I welcome one and all to comment on my journey as a photographer.
