I am an artist working at the intersection of photography, sculpture, video, and mixed media. At the core of my practice lies a profound interest in transformation — of material, memory, and perception. I am drawn to themes of exile, loss, the boundaries between nature and the body, as well as the fragile connections between the visible and the invisible.
My work often begins with intuitive observation — of light, texture, movement — which gradually evolves into complex visual systems. I am especially interested in engaging with natural processes, ephemeral materials, and moments on the verge of disappearance. In many projects, I strive to capture what resists fixation, to hold a fleeting moment, or to translate the rhythm of nature into an abstract visual language.
My best-known project is the series of 40 works titled Exile from Paradise (2007), exhibited at the Triumph Gallery in Moscow. In this series, I worked with fragments of key sacred texts — the Bible, the Quran, and the Torah — where the story of the exile of the first ancestors from the “pure lands” is described. I scanned and printed these texts in their original languages on transparent material. By overlapping the pages, I created visual images — subtle yet discernible silhouettes of angels, Adam, Eve, and their shared scene of exile. Each figure is presented in a separate work, and its image is formed from the letters, words, and rhythm of the sacred texts, transforming text into a plastic visual substance.
I perceive art as a space where contradictions coexist freely — where poetic ambiguity, intuition, and resistance to formal logic take shape. I am drawn to the idea that contemporary art is based on contradiction and nonconformity, and that each new gesture, to some extent, should challenge the previous one.
