Light, composition, subject, in that order for me. But of course, it's also much more than that! Color, tone, contrast, depth, texture, dynamic range, emotional expression, capturing life, celebrating our world. Provided you have the basics down, pixel peeping is boring, IMO. I prefer to create visual interest rather than worry about MPs or whether or not I have the latest and greatest gear. I rather make an image of something completely ordinary appear extraordinarily appealing than to stand in front of the standard photographic icons and click the shutter at the go to F11 ......but really, any subject is good as it is LIFE and life is what we strive to capture.

“If you want to be a better photographer, stand in front of more interesting stuff." ~ J Richardson

"There are two kinds of photographers—the ones who take pictures for a magazine to earn something, and the others who gain by taking pictures they are interested in. I am the second kind. I don't believe in the in-between success of becoming famous as quickly as possible. I believe in the end-success of a man's work as developing into a real human being, aware of the connection in life between earth and the cosmos; a person able to understand the mistakes, and to admire the achievements, of other people." ~Ernst Haas

"For me, photography is to place head, heart and eye along the same line of sight." HC Bresson

"The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera."~Dorothea Lange

"To me, photography is an art of observation. It's about finding something interesting in an ordinary place... I've found it has little to do with the things you see and everything to do with the way you see them.” ~Elliott Erwitt.

“You don't make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read, the music you have heard, the people you have loved.”~ Ansel Adams

"Seeing, in the finest and broadest sense, means using your senses, your intellect, and your emotions. It means encountering your subject matter with your whole being. It means looking beyond the labels of things and discovering the remarkable world around you." ~Freeman Patterson
