Whatever the subject matter--and it can vary widely--I find that I am most often shooting for one of four purposes: 1) artistic, primarily concerned with color, texture, form and line, to make something beautiful, symbolic, or emotionally compelling, 2) communications in or about the congregation that I serve, 3) musicians (starting with my son and his schoolmates), 4) family snaps--but I don't post those.
Under category 1, I have access to a beautiful garden cultivated by my wife, and I love shooting in nature, but I don't think of that work as primarily nature photography. It's just that nature provides an incredible paint box.
The 5th category would be whatever crazy assignment my latest "Get Pushed" partner has given me!
For Get Pushed members' reference, here's what is in my kit:
Camera: Canon 70D
Lenses: Sigma 17-70, Canon 105 Macro, Sigma 70-200,
Canon 100-400.
AND Lensbaby Double Glass 50, and Edge 80
Not to forget: construction paper with pin holes.
Various tripods, one Speedlite, a remote shutter or flash trigger, a small reflector and diffuser set, and, with Canon utilities, the ability to tether the camera to the computer to shoot.
Photoshop CS6, OnOne Perfect Photo Suite 6.
