At Matava you can participate in affordable and exclusive diving and experience the true beauty of Fiji. We hardly ever see another diveboat! The diving is extremely varied and we have access to all 5 passages in the Great Astrolabe Reef. The hard corals on the outer reef stand amongst the best in the world – the fish diversity is enormous and encounters with pelagics and sharks are frequent. The island of Kadavu is located South of Viti Levu. We receive 2 flights a day - one from Nadi - 45 mins (Sun Air) and one from Suva - 30 mins (Air Fiji). We will collect you from the airport on Kadavu for the 50 minute boat ride to the resort.

We receive 2 flights a day - two from Nadi and one from Suva. We will collect you from the airport at Vunisea (Kadavu) for the 50 minute boat ride to the resort.

Our intimate oceanfront resort has charming and comfortable Fijian bures, outstanding cuisine and we stock a wide selection of wines, beers and spirits. For divers, our team of PADI dive professionals will ensure you have an unforgettable diving holiday. They also offer a full range of PADI certifications. Our diving offers enormous fish variety, pristine corals and a real chance to dive with Mantas and sharks. Alternatively you can also participate in, game fishing (catch and release); kayaking, surfing, snorkeling, trekking, local village events or simply relax. With no roads and a maximum of 20 guests, at Matava you really can have your own little piece of paradise.
Dining at Matava takes place on the balcony of the ‘bure levu’, where guests enjoy an imaginative blend of local and international cuisines, while sharing conversation and friendship. Local seasonal delicacies are always found in the menu as well as the day’s fresh fruit and vegetables from our own organic garden, home style freshly baked breads and muffins and freshly caught seafood like tuna (sashimi), trevally, lobster and walu (Spanish mackerel).
Our game boat ‘BITE ME’ is chartered mainly for game fishing. Few boats however offer a better platform to cruise our waters and we offer combinations of half day, single day fishing, fishing packages, cruising and island hopping charters. Our North Astrolabe Cruise is a wonderful day out for up to 4 people – you set the itinerary.
BITE ME is a DeepVee 310 which has the legendary Raymond Hunt designed hull with its reputation for a smooth ride and superb sea keeping characteristics. We cruise at ease at 22 – 25 knots and carry a plethora of electronics and safety equipment, satellite navigation, radar/sounder/chart plotter, and 6 man liferaft for your ultimate safety and comfort.
BITE ME has a crew of two and is available for day or multi day package charter for up to 4 guests. Relax in comfort whilst game fishing, island hopping / snorkelling / picknicking or just cruising the area’s uninhabited islands and sheltered coral lagoons
The boat is outfitted with toilet, shower, galley, fridge, teak cockpit and saloon for guest’s comfort. Sporting equipment includes Reelax outriggers & game chair whith Penn and Shimano fishing tackle.
BITE ME is based at Matava Resort on Kadavu and surveyed for charters Fiji wide. We are available for private or resort charters in the Kadavu, Beqa, Pacific Harbour, Suva and Coral Coast Regions.

The ultimate Kadavu adventures – sea kayaking day / overnight trips, waterfall treks, snorkeling, scuba diving, and game fishing. See the real Fiji and have a real cultural exchange – maybe stay overnight in a village. Adventure trips are organised by Matava Resort and are conducted using our own professionals, local experts and overseas specialists.
Matava Resort is based on the island of Kadavu which is located South of Viti Levu. We receive 2 flights a day - one from Nadi - 45 mins (Sun Air) and one from Suva - 30 mins (Air Fiji). Trips are based around the South side of Kadavu and around Ono island.
Discover the surrounding picturesque islands or explore nearby villages and river systems. In association with Tamarillo Sea kayaking, we offer one day guided and overnight kayak adventures. The itinerary is tailored to the weather and your interests. Our overnight kayak adventure begins with a leisurely guided kayak from the resort to a Nacomoto village, pausing along the way for some snorkelling and a picnic lunch on a secluded sandy beach. After arriving at the village, you present your “sevu sevu”, a gift of a bundle of Kava root, and receive the traditional welcome from the village chief and elders. Then a local guide from the village will take you on a walk into the hills to see some sights of historic interest. The guide is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the region and the surrounding flora and fauna. Then cool off in the hidden waterfall where the guide will offer you some green coconut milk straight from the tree. Dinner is back at the village with the elders and the family you will be staying with. You will be invited to join in the ensuing kava ceremony and hear the ancient stories of the village elders. After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast a boat will collect guests (or they can choose to kayak back or on to another village and another adventure!)
Kadavu is now established as a leading world dive destination. However, if you visited without exploring at least a little of the island, your visit would be incomplete. Kadavu offers rainforests, mangroves, waterfalls, beaches, unique wildlife, unspoilt villages, and the opportunity to become involved in cultural activities unchanged for hundreds of years. At Matava, we offer a variety of activities for those wanting to explore the island or learn more about the Fijian way of life. Many of these are joint initiatives between the resort and local communities.
