I seem to be able to log on through another reg. Yahoo.ac'ct, since I accessed demarest39 uploads in French on a flickr search and made myself a contact with mason.fotog in flickr

 

Ideally I should be able to recuperate access to that account & as of 8/16/2013 this is possible.

 

Born in East Los Angeles, I grew up in Pasadena and Altadena. Studied in Pasadena, Mexico, Berkeley and Montréal. Also lived several months in Brazil and recently traveled in France, Belgium, and Germany and in 2010 spent a wonderful week back in the neighborhood where I lived in Mexico D.F. while attending classes at the UNAM.

 

Father from central Iowa arrived in Los Angeles in 1927 after finishing college in Illinois to work doing photography for a family friend from Des Moines, Mr. McDuffie.

 

Not yet verified, but I get the idea this was possibly the brother of the Bay Area's Mason McDuffie, founder of the big real estate firm that continues to this day. (Dad never gave details about just what his photography for Mr. McDuffie involved, and my older brothers didn't know. Mother only talked about the fact that we were lucky he was always working during the Great Depression.)

During WW II Father did defense related work in the Pasadena Blueprint Company, then from '45-'50 ran a photocopy and photo offset printing business at Colorado & Fair Oaks in Old Pasadena--mainly fed at the start by the need for copies of discharge documents for veterans. 1949-1964 he and my mother edited and published a monthly square dance directory and news publication from a large basement shop in our home--all the while using all the skills of his experience.

 

Not until 2004 did I see a copy of my official birth certificate and see that he listed himself as a self-employed photographer for 13 years. Knowing this and putting the pieces of the puzzle together has influenced me ever since.... Shooting architectural subjects always attracts me.
