Masis Usenmez, EFIAP, GPU CROWN 2, SSS/B.

Photographer from Rennes, France.

Born in 1979, in Istanbul, I am an Armenian from Turkey. I have been living in Rennes, France since late 2017 with my wife and two children. I graduated in economics from Yildiz Technical University in 2000, MBA degree From Istanbul University in 2002. Then, I rediscovered photography, a passion from my childhood, in my early 30s. I want back to school, first finishing an undergraduate degree in Photography at Anadolu University in 2013, and then completing a Master of Photography at Marmara University in 2019.

I competed in many competitions and gained more than 300 acceptances and medals. I participated in exhibitions in Turkey, Europe, and the USA. I was honored with an EFIAP degree from FIAP.

My passion is street and documentary photography. I like to shoot with a rangefinder or mirrorless camera with a 35mm/50mm lens on the street. I mostly transfer images to black and white with high contrast and grain. I enjoy Black & White for a clear but surreal feeling in my images. In my opinion, Black & White removes the distraction of color and helps the viewer focus on textures, shapes, and patterns. With the use of high contrast and grain, I give my images a timeless feeling. I like to play with lights and shadows. In many of my works, you can discern that the shadows play an important role.
