Mary's photos are significant because they possess an air of experimentation. A knowledge of how to capture soft light and a genuine use of colour allows her to bring out the subject and their environment. Her travel portraits and landscapes are a testimate to this. I continue to enjoy her work as there is always a spontaneous shot in her series which allows you to feel as if you are a part of the events unfolding infront of her lens. Her love of family, friends and culture is evident in her use of subjects and has created a portfolio which has evolved in skill as much as it has in profiling world locations.

Is it strange to call someone an extroverted introvert? Because that's what I think of when I explore the world through Mary's photos. She travels, and pauses, and travels again, documenting as she goes...yet there's something very intimate about her photography. She shoots people and I want to learn new languages so I can meet them: in her photos I already have. She shoots quiet nights in small far-away towns and I want to jump in a plane and follow in her footsteps. She shoots trees and ponds and rivers and I want to disappear off into the forests. Her photos take me somewhere I haven't been before...and make it feel like home. She puts herself into her surroundings and then shares it with us. I am so happy to have met Mary, and all these new places, through her Flickr stream.
