Only beginning to digest MB's work. Two things engage me immediately. First, in her gleaning process Mary finds perfect responses and placements for those objects and images that move so many of us. A great image or object can DEMAND a response, and those of us who are lesser artists rarely find the satisfying reaction. Mary nails it again and again. The second thing is the colour. MB's photos are presented with an uncanny sensetivity that allows her to use the most saturated colour without ever being vulgar, the most subtle without being dull.

Mary is many folds, but there are three I want to share: For many Flickr is a place to post their art, yet little transpire of themselves beyond the display of their skills. We have this great tool where artists can interact in a dynamic fashion with the people viewing their art. Mary does not fear exposing herself, her thoughts, her process, her experience(s) with others. In that way she is a leader, as well as an inspiration. Then the work: Her art is multifaceted taking me and the other viewers onto contemplative voyages. I say contemplative because most of Mary's production is not for the quick first impression – the layering of symbols and meanings is dense and rich, and appreciating that requires time. Finally it's the way Mary sees. She has an insightful way of looking at art. She goes right to the heart, to the essence, and leaves enthusiastic, touching and articulated comments. Mary, you're precious!

Btw the job market discards 87% of people who have long term mental health diagnoses. But people are not their diagnoses. Let's hope for the day when society accepts that each and every member is on a continuum of mental health and that diversity is the beauty that challenges us to love each and every one.
