I am independent, persistent & passionate about creating and teaching photography using silver gelatin analog film darkroom developing & printing techniques. I love learning and sharing both traditional darkroom techniques and alternative and mixed media processes with my students of all ages at Forsyth Country Day School, Studios@625 in the Downtown Arts District, the Sawtooth Center for Visual Arts and at Salem College.
I derive great joy from shooting black and white films, hand developing and printing them in the darkroom. I mainly use an old dependable Beseler C-23 enlarger and love to play with the same negative frame using multiple alternative media after printing. I enjoy the artistic control and especially love the hands on aspect of the darkroom as well as creating one of a kind works with old fashioned craftsmanship. I am not anti-digital and often shoot with my Nikon D-50 when I want quick turn around and color. I however, do not receive the same type of "joy" from this modern technology as I do from my traditional analog darkroom work. Lately I have been using my digital camera and images more by photo transferring them, photo-collaging them into one of a kind works of art.
A few folks are bothered with they see the right bar states "digital" when I have stated that it is a silver gelatin print, that is because my image will not fit into a scanner I shoot it with my Nikon D-50. I sometimes scan slides of prints that have been sold.
