Having had a lifetime interest in railways, I have been taking pictures since the mid to late 1970's. Most pre-digital images were recorded on Kodachrome 64 transparency film with an Olympus OM1 SLR.
Over the years I have tried to capture some of the 'less glamorous' parts of the network, and consequently many of my images feature multiple units countrywide. They were and are the daily routine, ignored by many, and their presence is only realised and missed once they are gone.
Although I live in Preston, the Merseyrail Electric system has always been of interest.
I have written several books in recent years, 'Merseyrail Electric' published in 2016, 'Network North West' published in 2017, 'Network Greater Manchester' which was published in December 2019, 'Class 142 - The Bus that Became a Train' in November 2020 and 'BR Blue - Scenes from the British Rail Corporate Image Era' in November 2022. A revised and updated 'Merseyrail Electric - The Award Winning Network' was published in November 2023. My seventh book, 'Lancashire's Railways 1978-Present' was published in March 2024. 'Northern Electrics - EMU's in the North of England', was published in August 2024.
I enjoy going out and about, being with trains and the railway environment, and whether its a quiet branch line out in the country with nothing more than a unit, or somewhere on the network with plenty of action, its all part of the everchanging scene and its all worth recording before it becomes history.

Testimonials
Can’t believe that I’m the first to write a testimonial. What an amazing photographer! He has an eye to bring the extraordinary out of the ordinary, everyday scene. Well worth spending time wandering through his Flickr site. Keep up the good work.
