Wait 'til you hear what they bring back from Mars. Mars Retrieval Unit is a band performing a fusion of funk and progressive rock, frequently shaking the walls of venues since 2008. The group has joined the lineup on the main stages at the Oregon Brewers' Festival, Gemini Fest, 5 Rivers Mountain Stomp, appeared on numerous hip local radio spotlights and public TV segments and has shared the stage with such greats as Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Hot Buttered Rum, Ike Willis, The Motet and New Monsoon. Performing for audiences of the Pacific Northwest, Mars Retrieval Unit has highlighted the hottest night club and lounge venues from Seattle to Idaho as well as Portland's sibling cities such as Olympia, Eugene, Hood River and Manzanita, to name but a few.
MRU's original music has a certain psychedelic twist, but is approachable by audiences of all ages and styles; a free-for-all dance party is achieved at each and every show! Imagine a sexy Joni Mitchell as the lead singer of Parliament-Funkadelic, covering Pink Floyd songs with Frank Zappa's meticulous attention to detail! MRU epitomizes genre-hopping in every sense as they effortlessly switch between vast soundscapes and tight, punchy rhythm lines with hooky vocals. Melody, rhythm, and harmony merge into a unified theory of groove. Featuring an incredibly flexible instrumental lineup of bass, guitar, keyboards, saxophone, flute and drums, there's nothing musically that MRU won't attempt and there's nowhere in outer space that they can't take you. Blasting through space and rhyme or place and time, get ready to transcend and be blown away.
