I work as volunteer co-ordinator with a network of community work projects. I have more hobbies than I have time for, photography being first among them.
If I wrote everything I wanted to write, made all the software I wanted to make, took all the photographs I wanted to take in the way I wanted to take them, read all the books I wanted to read, visited all the places I wanted to visit, met all the people I wanted to meet, or played in the band I wanted to play in then I'd never get any work done and the bills would never get paid and my wife would point out that she saw even less of me than she does now.
I returned to photography after something like a 10- or 12-year hiatus when the geek boy inside me prompted me to buy a shiny DSLR. Since then I have rediscovered the pleasure of doing things the old-fashioned way, and these days I reach for the DSLR less and less and the vast majority of my shooting is done on black and white film with a manual camera, processed in my bath and then scanned. When we've got the space and the money we'll have a darkroom, but for now the scanner does.
I photograph most things, but very rarely landscapes - I don't know why, but they just don't do it for me.
The formal portfolio is at www.markgoody.com/ and the blog is at www.marramgrass.org.uk/.
Something to bear in mind while you explore Flickr: there's a lot of rubbish around here, but there are some truly excellent photographers for whom Flickr is providing the audience they deserve. Have a trawl through my contacts to see some of the ones I'd recommend keeping an eye on.
