The past 10 years that I've been active on Flickr have provided endless entertainment for me. From the first day I showed up on Flickr people reached out to be friends with me. I still have these friends to this day. Sometime during the past several years I began my transition and started along an unmapped path. I've taken some detours along the way, and I've had to retrace my steps on more than one occasion to get back on the right path. But throughout this epic journey I've had all of you, my best friends, to give me a shoulder to lean on when the going got tough. I can honestly say that I would not have gotten where I am today without you. But, I never made it to my destination, that journey got interrupted. I have some important things to do right now.
The world is a different place now, I no longer recognize my own country. We are not the beacon for freedom, diversity, and acceptance anymore. Instead, half of our population is comfortable with allowing a racist psychopath to destroy the identity of our country. I'm not one of that half. The percentage of transgender people who make up the population of the United States is vanishingly small. But never in my life have I heard the word "transgender" thrown around so much by the people who find our tiny numbers such a threat. Although we are among the most peaceful of citizens, the attacks are relentless. I've never seen such hatred from anyone, let alone from the people of my own country. The haters, however, need to remember ... To never assume the reason I'm peaceful is because I've forgotten how to be violent.
It would be premature to say "Adios," but at some point I'll semi-abandon this account without ever actually closing it. I'll do that because I don't want anyone else to assume my alias. That way if you ever want to try and reach me, you will know that you're talking to the real Marley. In the meantime, I'll maintain a much reduced presence.
