I'm interested in all aspects of photography but with a passion for wildlife photography. I'm therefore primarily a nature and wildlife photographer but you will also find a number of landscape and travel photography type shots on my photostream.
Achievements to date include winning the 'Animal Behaviour' category of the 2010 British Wildlife Photography Awards ("BWPA") with a shot of two Coots sparring and winning the 'Animal Portraits' category of the 2011 BWPA competition along with two Highly Commended images; Mystical Mist (fallow deer in the fog), Swooping Kite (Red Kite aerial acrobatics) and Little Big Eyes (wide angle close-up of a Grey Seal pup in the snow). In 2012 I also got two Highly Commended photos in the book and the exhibition feature Knots at Snettisham in the Coast and Marine category and two coots sparring (again) in the Animal Behaviour category.
In addition I have had a number of images used by BBC Nature along with images published in EOS Magazine and a several of national newspapers. My images are available directly or from me or via Alamy and Getty photo libraries.
I'm based in London but try to travel as much as possible in order to broaden my range of subjects. Some of my recent projects have included documenting Puffins in the Farnes and Skomer, Red Deer in England and Grey Seals in the UK. Further afield I have work on projects in Svalbard, Sri Lanka and East Africa.
I hope you enjoy looking at my images but please remember these are property of Mark Smith and as such, I reserve all rights. They take a lot of time and patience to get so they are not to be reproduced without my permission.
