The world is an amazing place but sometimes we forget, or sometimes it seems as if what is going on in your life, or in the very room in which you are sitting, is the most important or the most sensual or relevant thing.

Photography is one way of exploring the world, of looking at every detail, in every way. As the sun goes down and paints the sky with every colour of the rainbow, and expressions flicker across peoples faces, and ideas get turned into reality through architecture, or art, or just plain being, some essence of the world is revealed.

Whilst the colour and focus, the texture and contrast, the orientation and structure of an image can be striking or even beautiful in its own right, photographs for me are all metaphors for something more than just the image.

If you wander around the streets, the fields, the valleys, using your minds eye as the camera, you will see patterns. We live by patterns; of behaviour, of social structure, of engineering. Patterns aren't things that are right or even correct, they just occur.

Photographs are another way of exploring the world, ourselves, and others. They are another way of becoming more aware; of ourselves, our context, and what is going on around us. I believe we should seek as many ways of doing this as possible, and make the most of all of them.
