When looking at Mark Partington's figurative paintings, one might imagine that the beautifully graceful women he paints could dance across the canvas. Perhaps, this is because although he seems to have found his artistic wings through painting, his roots in the arts began with his love of music. After graduating high school, Mark pursued his first love with a rock band on the Chicago circuit, and then later he worked his way across to the west coast.
His career as a musician culminated with a jazz-rock symphonic piece he was commissioned to write for the Sidney Ballet company, which was used in their Earth day performance of a newly choreographed contemporary style.
After leaving the road, Mark enrolled at Clark State and pursued a degree in design. While still in college he was published 3 times nationally and once internationally. During this time he took life drawing classes at the Springfield Museum of Art; and apprenticed with Sculptor Milton Kramer, Studied drawing with Eunice Bronkar and Paul Melia.
In 1986 he graduated culminating his accomplishments with the Govenor's Award, a winning entry in the Springfield's Art Museum's annual show in the drawing division, and garnered an award for a piece he did in a Black Awareness & Human Rights theme contest for CCAD.
Mark is in many private & corporate collections including :
Disney, the Limited, Honda of America mfg,The Luxor Hotel & Casinos in las Vegas, and St Joe. Mark has become a member of the Portrait Society of America, and completed commissions from Govenor Celeste & Senator Lawson, Judges William Manson,Circuit courts judge, and in 2010 Federal Judge Peter C. Economus/Youngstown,Oh.
His favorite portraits are of children however, and Partington has pioneered a "genre portraiture style" that takes portraits firmly into the fine arts arena.
