Hello Fellow Photographers & Photo freaks. My name is Marcus - aka Flickr Flame here on this wonderful website. I grew up with Photography - my father was a Pro, and starting at the age of 2, he would have me in his darkroom while my mother tended to my new baby brother. So I reckon I started learning VERY early thru osmosis and naturally became a Visually oriented person. This was reinforced by the advent of that little magic box we called the Television - WoW, Cartoons & Walt Disney !!!

Next it was the Movies - the drive-in, 3-D and Cinerama, I was fascinated by that flickering beam of light emanating from a tiny window in the rear of the balcony wall; and I later discovered the source of that beam and became a Projectionist myself.

I was always looking at great photos in magazines like National Geographic and Arizona Highways and NPPA news, and of course my fathers work as well. I had the use of many fine cameras that my dad owned and honed my own skills with his Yashica, Leica and Nikons, not to mention the free film and processing he provided along with his advice and tips.

Dad had a modest collection of antique cameras and some magic lanterns - when he retired he sold them and became a collector and dealer of antique postcards - endlessly fascinating images of every subject under the sun from 150 yrs ago - and I still enjoy collecting them and other ephemera today. I now have a sizable collection of carte-de-visite and cabinet cards which I collect for the interesting, varied and detailed graphics on the reverse side; especially those showing photo studios and equipment.

Now in the Digital age, I spend endless hours shooting old images of all types to archive and preserve for historical research. I also love to shoot nature, architecture and just about anything made out of old wood. I love to capture odd and unusual angles and juxtapositions and try to capture and present some aspect that would normally escape the notice of the average viewer. Composition is my forte and I have taught several classes on this aspect. I formerly used the very handy Leica V-Lux 1 and a Sony Cybershot pocket camera but recently upgraded for more mega pixels and zoom range and now use a Sony Cybershot DSC-HX400 V with a 50X zoom, my newer pocket camera, which can do just about anything and extremely well is a Panisonic Lumix DMC-ZS40 pocket camera; and also utilize my iPhone 14

Pro Max triple camera often because it is always with me and is more capable every year !

Some of the lesser quality resolution photos I have posted here in my photo stream were taken years ago with my first digital camera - the 3.2 Megapixel Nikon Coolpix 995 with the swivel body and a wide angle lens. That was before they had the anti-shake and other foolproof features available now. I find myself going back to re-shoot many subjects again with a better camera so I can enlarge and print them to show and sell on occasion. I do not make a living from photography but simply use it as a creative visual outlet.

Well friends, thanks for reading my profile - I hope you enjoy perusing my work, and please don't hesitate to give me some feedback OR ask questions. I will leave you with this quote from Mark Twain - " You cannot depend on your eyes . . . . when your imagination is out of focus."
