My interest in photography began out of my desire to explore the world and share my experiences with others. Growing up I was heavily influenced by watching National Geographic, Nature and Jacques Cousteau shows. The blend of unimaginable beauty, adventure and harsh reality in many ways shaped the way I look at the world.

My photography reflects the beauty and reality I see. The adventure is the process of actually creating the image. As a medium photography allows me to focus on the essence of what it is that I want to express or share with the viewer. Digital photography allows me even more creative control, though I generally do very little manipulation to my images. My subjects, I feel, look better as they exist naturally.

The core of my subject matter is nature. Whether it is landscapes, plants, people or wildlife I prefer to show them in the natural context of their environment. Because of this I seldom work in a studio or with captive animals. I strive for as much realism as I can get in my work with living beings.

With plants and other natural elements I’ll take a more artistic approach on occasion and abstract interesting elements. These elements are often patterns of color, lines, shapes or texture. The idea is to challenge the viewer to look closer at the mundane and find the beauty within it.
