A one time photography nut who's currently a little quiet...
Once upon a time you'd find me on Flickr every day, actively contributing everywhere. I lived and breathed photography, and although now much quieter, I can't let go the addiction of visual feasts for my eyes. I still look at images daily, I can't help it. Maybe I'll make some new ones at some point...
A background: I'm a former mechanical engineer who retrained in photography and digital media back in England. I lived in Scotland before moving to Aotearoa New Zealand in 2007, the country I now proudly and humbly call home. I have worked in photographic retail, worked as a freelance photographer covering almost any style you can think of. I taught photography for the best part of nine years both in the UK and New Zealand. My professional career took me into Culture & Heritage where I have designed digitisation factories, designed and built numerous high-end studios and delivered countless high profile digitisation projects, including two which genuinely changed the way imaging in Culture & Heritage organisations is done globally. Through this work, I'm published internationally. Humbly, there isn't much I don't know about imaging, but the day job took the art out of it for me and killed the passion.
A refocus into technology may bring it back... My personal work tends to favour portraiture, architecture and travel.
The me away from images? Tall, scruffy hair and a big smile. I love food and cooking, bit of a craft beer nerd. I'm a lifelong fan of classic and sports cars and love driving for the fun of it and take in track days when I can. I'm a music fiend and play drums with a growing collection of them. I'm an occasional mountain biker, love life outdoors and I'm very grateful to live next to the sea. I appreciate fine architecture and design and would gladly live in Japan if I ever decide to let New Zealand go.
Some say I'm Dave Grohl's twin...

Dave is an extremely multi-talented photographer. He has conquered all ends of photography, ranging from portraiture to landscape. His work is undoubtedly inspiring.

I went to university with Dave, I've dragged a hungover Dave 2 km accross Berlin in the freezing snow just so we could could be disappointed by the anti climax that was Alexander Platz, All Dave got out of it was abuse in German by a crackhead with a begging tin only Dave doesn't speak German.... I've walked miles around the Circuit De Sarthe at Le Mans with Dave at 4am. I've tramped across a boggy freezing Rannock Moor in the Scottish Highlands with Dave just so we could photograph a busted tree. There's more, much more, but the point is Dave is my friend. I miss Dave. Without Dave that elusive creative spark is that little bit more difficult to capture. He is the tinder that takes the spark and turns it into fire, and then runs away giggling like a child - an ideas arsonist that's what Dave is - people need a Dave like Fatboy Slim needs a 303.
Read lessThanks for adding me as a contact. I love your 7 deadly sins, I couldn't have said it better myself or agreed more. I was pleasantly surprised to look at your photo stream and NOT find crap. ;)
It was not long ago that I became fascinated about Dave’s style and approach to photography. His images, besides having great composition and technique, transmit honest emotions and that is what I look for in a photo. I am truly impressed by his stream and I can't wait to see more of it. Go Dave Go!!! Give us more ;)
Dave has a photographic eye. He has a unique style that sets him apart from other photographers. He is always willing to give advice and tips with photography. And is influential in all forms of photography both physically and mentally. I continue to enjoy his work and admire Dave as a unique individual.
A dude of the highest order!
