Reality is soo over-rated
I love to take pictures and have done so for as long as I can remember. My instruments chronologically: Olympus Trip, Nikon Nikkormat, Nikon F3, Yashica T5 (all analogous), Sony Mavica MVC-FD7 (my first digital, you know, the one with the floppy disks), Pentax Optio S4 (great camera: small, reasonable quality and outstanding super macro) a Nikon D70S, a Ricoh Caplio GX100 (small and handy, ugly but excellent), a Nikon D300, D700 and recently a Nikon D800. I mostly use the 24-70 (2.8) zoom.
For many years I worked in black and white. I did my own developing and printing. Reluctantly I went digital, and now I love it!
I became a paying Flickr-member in 2007 and I decided to post one photo a day (not necessarily one that I took that day), and now I have over 4000 photo's on Flickr. Via Flickr I met a lot of nice and friendly people, some of them have become very dear to me. Flickr also helped me develop my own style. I use colours, lines, curves, shadows, repetition and my favorite subject is modern architecture. Flickr has learned me to appreciate square format.
I do not manipulate my photo's - that is to say I do not cut and paste. My images are parts of reality, details, small elements, shadows. My work is somewhere between reality and abstract. Often people are puzzled by what they see. Well, they see the world through my eyes.
In 2011 I took the big step and became a part-time professional photographer. We'll see how it goes, but better tried and failed than never have tried.

Oh, and if you fave one of my photos and/or add me as a contact and/or have that stupid grey standard-icon and/or you don't share any photos of your own, I will block you. Nothing personal.

Outstanding work - your gallery is a pleasure to look at.
I first stumbled across Maerten over the self-portraits which he posted after his bicycle accident. I wrote him a flickr mail with get-well wishes. It took him six weeks to get back. I first stumbled across Maerten over the self-portraits which he posted after his bicycle accident. I wrote him a flickr mail with get-well wishes. It took him six weeks to get back. That was more than a year ago. We became contacts. And now we met. And I feel lucky to have followed my instincts. I love his work. He's got an amazing eye for form, pattern and light. His angles, frames and croppings are fantastic. His color treatment is bold, but in a very delightful way. He's got style. Plus, he's a fine guy. It's great to go out shooting with him. He's very creative, never boring, has a wonderful sense of humor and a lot of heart and soul. And his taste in music kicks ass.
