On The Art of Madelaine 22 By George Gilbert I have long admired Madelaine 22´s protean work as a painter of abstract art. Three years ago she surprised the art world in Buenos Aires, creating and performing a memorable dance work of stunning originality. Several months later, she gave another dance show which captivated her audiences with brilliant satire and scenes of sublime beauty. Both shows were shot with video cameras by local professionals and edited by Madelaine 22 into ¨Misteriosa Buenos Aires¨ and ¨Danza Artesanal.¨ Over a year ago and restless for a new creative challenge, she began shooting digital images with a 16.0 millimeter Sony, enhancing or altering the shot, using her computer as an instrument of creativity. What emerges is a new kind of art of surpassing originality and spontaneity. Her bold work, especially as a superb colorist, places her in the forefront of a new art form of unlimited creative possibilities. She considers her work unclassifiable in the lexicon of the arts, but is a synthesis of all her creative endeavors. George Gilbert is an American writer and former arts critic for newspapers in Chicago, Los Angeles and other major cities. He divides his time checking out the arts in San Francisco and Buenos Aires.
