Old Photographer - film to digital transition made about 2003. Taught photography for Wilderness Photography Workshops in both Colorado and Wyoming for several years. Currently am marketing images to periodicals and books as well as working on a project that may become part of a promotional effort for Tourism Kansas. Completed the project with Jim Richardson of National Geographic. April 2007 Issue. President of the Great Plains Nature Photographers (see our group).

I also do a few weddings and portraits every year but this is not my concentration. Used to work for a studio in Texas doing this stuff and I enjoyed it then and still do today. I love to shoot video and do a lot of video on trips to produce short, concise programs about the trips. So far I have done videos on Jasper National Park, Kenai Peninsual, Tanzania and the Galapagos as well as other short local trips. I also did a tongue in cheek video called, "Into Thick Air" about climbing Mt. Sunflower, the highest point in Kansas. It is available for viewing on video.google.com/videosearch?q=Into+thick+air&emb=0# if interested.

Somehow I have been fortunate enough to have visited all 50 states. Working on a few countries but I keep repeating some so I will not make a big list here!

I use Canons fine line of digital cameras. In fact, I have been using Canon equipment since 1970. I currently use the following:

Canon 7D

Canon 5DII

Lenses

Tamron 11-18

Canon 20/2.8

Canon 16-35/2.8L

Canon 50/1.8

Canon 24-105L IS

Canon 100/2.8 Macro

Canon 70-200/2.8L IS

Canon 100-400L IS

Canon 300/2.8L IS

Canon 1.4X II

Canon 2X

For Flash

Canon 420

Canon 430

Canon 580

Wireless Transmitter

Bogen tripods and Ball Heads

I can't carry all this stuff so I make out a game plan for the shooting trip and pack accordingly in one of four camera bags/backpacks.

I also use Apple's fine line of computers and have been for about 2.5 years after giving up on Microsoft.

Jim is a fellow Kansas, but with wandering feet that take him and his camera all over the US and to some parts of the greater world as well! And the pictures he brings back, the ones he shares with his friends on flickr, are always inspirational, technically beautiful, and artistic. But more, Jim is always willing to sit down and write a long, detailed email about the photos I comment on. He answers questions about cameras, photo sites, and anything else a person might want to know about photography. I have not had the pleasure of meeting Jim personally yet (we just missed one time at Maxwell Game Preserve!), but I feel comfortable counting him as a friend, one whom I admire and trust for insight and advice.
