I have four bookcases at home. My favourite type of books are about Art, Artists, Photography, and Photographers. One of these books is by Mabel Amber, which she kindly sent to me many moons ago. It is filled with my favourite genre ...Street Photography. Mabel hits the streets of her hometown of Amsterdam with vigour, determination, courage, sensitivity and above all, passion, in order to do what she loves ..capturing real life, real people, real expression, real ...soul! Her photographs to me, are in the same league as Robert Frank, Robert Doisneau, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and her own favourite, and inspiration, Garry Winogrand. Whilst a lot of photographers will try to grab your attention with gimmicks, endless talk and ridiculous over-use of PhotoShop, Mabel's pictures will quietly enter your head, and ...stay there..!! I hope one day she will create an exhibition of her work. In the meantime, I look forward to her next book. One last thing... Mabel is also an extremely fine, and creative writer. Considering she is Dutch, she is a true wordsmith of the English language. I occasionally remind her that she should write novels, but only occasionally... for fear that she'll not have enough time left to.. ....take photographs...!!
