I have heard that a picture is worth a 1000 words. When you view Maarten's work you will fully understand what that cliche means. Maarten's images tell stories, they carry messages and most important make you think. Maarten is the kind of artist who will push the envelope and step outside the safe zone. He is never ordinary and never dull. Sometimes you will laugh, sometimes cry and sometimes even turn away - but you will always be forced to stop and think. Some parts of photography can be taught but the other piece is a gift that only some people have - Maarten has that unique gift - the ability to tell a story in just one image.

Every day Maarten provides further inspiration for me and my photography habit. He does everything well... from portraits to candids, still-frames to action, humans and objects, other people and himself. His creativity bleeds out of his photos... they are a joy to experience and take in. Further, his leadership of the This is Today! group and his constant efforts to see the group and its members grow (he seems to always comment on my TiT photos and root me on) is uncanny and representative of not just a good photog, but a visionary of flickr and leader of all the flickrites out there.
