LYNfabrikken (the lightning factory)

For a lot of people, the kitchen is not only a place for eating and drinking but a meeting point for exchanging news, discussing and talking about all sorts of things.

To transform this “kitchen situation” and make it public was one of the basic ideas for the foundation of the platform LYNfabrikken in 2002. A place for casual exchange for young designers was to be created, a place that would encourage creative

communication and would contribute to the networking within the design scene.

An old industry building was adapted, design studios were constructed and the attic became a café with a shop. Designers and customers get the chance to meet there; displayed products can be examined and, of course, purchased.

The above mentioned studio is on the first floor, working space for 32 creative people of diverse fields of work: Architecture, industrial design, furniture, writers, graphics and interactive design etc, are working next to each other and with each other – stimulating each other and swapping ideas.

LYNfabrikken is a private company who works for entrepreneurs from the creative industri. With a strong international focus, LYNfabrikken established a showroom in Vienna, Austria in 2006, and wants to make similar projects with other european cities.
