Myers-Briggs: INFP
A photographer, off and on, for several decades, photographing nature, landscapes, and landscapes of iconic places. My first "real" camera was a Pentax Spotmatic that I bought overseas while in the U. S. Navy on active duty in 1968. Over the years, I've photographed commercially, making images for use in advertising and fashion advertising. In grad school, I supplemented my income by being a party "picture man" at college fraternity and sorority events and parties, taking candids of (usually) drunk college students. Earned a BFA with a major in graphic design and minors in photography, painting and printmaking. Obtained a master's degree in mass communication and went on to earn a Ph.D. in communication which started my career teaching mass communication methods and techniques at the university level for over three decades.
Upon retiring from the academic world in 2012, as often as I could, i grabbed my camera(s) and headed out to photograph as much of the world as I could. A favorite place to photograph was and is Konza Prairie Biological Station, a research site operated by Kansas State University Division of Biology on land owned by the Nature Conservancy and leased to the university. A couple of times a year (before the pandemic) I took trips, mostly to the southwest United States, mostly Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah. I have a deep fondness for the rugged landscapes, the desert light, and the deep darkness of the night skies. Once the pandemic is over and we're once again able to travel, I hope to be "out there" once again with camera in beautiful places.
My photographs have been accepted for gallery show in juried photography competitions, have won awards and purchase prizes, and have been selected for publication. I sell my images, but I don't consider myself a professional photographer, but refer to myself as a serious amateur--meaning, I do this mostly for the love of the creative process and to the love of nature and the outdoors.
