In close collaboration with varying practitioners Luke Stokes_design works in the fields of architecture, interiors, theatre set and retail design.

History

A relatively young office, with its official commencement in 2008, has recently grown rapidly to a practice committed to providing a professional service for the production of uniquely designed environments. Projects vary in scale from gallery/exhibition installations to hospitality fit outs, residential interiors, theatre set designs and uniquely branded retail environments.

ESD

Ecologically sustainable design is always a multi-disciplinary task that applies to all stages of any project. In Practice, our ESD strategies consistently reflect the typology and budget of the given project. Strategies ranging from recyclable building materials and the re-use of existing infrastructure, to the application of photovoltaic cells and wind turbines, have been applied and considered time after time in our work.

Press

The work of the office has been widely reviewed, and highly published in The AGE, Epicure – for work on Southpaw Bar on Gertrude St, and The Entertainment Review, The AGE – for “you’re not the boss of me”, as well as online content in Indesign LIVE for “SONA AIA DesignEx Stand 09”.

Recently, in 2009, Luke Stokes was nominated for the prestigious Green Room Award for Best Set Design.

As the circumstances of the work change, our interests expand. We seek to explore the full richness and diversity of design practice, understanding it as a critical cultural act that engages our most fundamental desires and aspirations. We refuse singular definitions of Design: as art, as technology, as social service, as environmental agent, as political statement. We embrace all these definitions, together, as part of the rich, complex and vital discipline that we believe architecture to be.
