Luke Metz is an award winning ceramic artist currently living in Sedona, Arizona. In 2012 he won 1st place in pottery/ceramics as an emerging artist at the Sedona Arts Center Annual Member show. At the same show in 2013 he won 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places as a professional artist. His work has been shown in numerous juried and non-juried shows. Currently his work can be seen at Pop-up Sedona Gallery. He is a juried member of the prestigious Sedona Area Guild of Artists (SAGA).
Luke grew up in New York City where he was exposed to some of the finest art in the world. While attending Columbia University, he took various art and art appreciation classes. Always loving three-dimensional art and working with his hands, Luke explored stone and wood carving. In the late ‘70s he took pottery classes that sparked an interest in clay.
It wasn’t until he retired from the business world, that he became immersed in ceramics. His adventurous spirit has taken him into many areas of ceramics. Being inquisitive by nature, Luke continues to broaden his well-developed skill set. “Learning makes me feel alive and inspired.”
Currently, his work is focused on raku firing, although he continues to explore other areas of ceramics. The earthy and organic nature of clay is emphasized in his work, which often strays from the traditional. Luke enjoys bringing the unexpected, the spontaneous, and the whimsical to his work.
