About the Library

Founded in 1896, the Library of the London School of Economics and Political Science is one of the largest libraries in the world devoted to the economic, social and political sciences. It is the working library of LSE, as well as a research collection of outstanding national and international importance, awarded 'Designation' status by the Museums Libraries and Archives Council.

About our Commons images

Although our holdings are mainly text based, we do have some interesting images in our collections. We see Flickr Commons as a way of making these images accessible to a wider community, and also as a way of enabling people to record and share their knowledge and their thoughts about them.

In particular, we have used our Flickr Commons site to create a ‘history in pictures’ for LSE, selecting, scanning and loading a wide range of images of School people, events and places. This project was funded by the LSE Annual Fund and a legacy gift from John B Selier (BCom Accounting and Finance, 1949), and we thank them for their support.
