PRO NO MORE

It was fun while it lasted... No really, it was... but recently I had to

consider dilemma’s like this just a bit too often:

Why is a picture of two shirtless men safe, but two shirtless

women restricted? (not moderate... gods no!) Well, people of this

community tell me, that is because of the sexual arousal an image of

two barebreasted women may cause and that may be really offensive

instead of just plain offensive in the case of one shirtless woman. It’s all about context! Really? Sexually arousing for whom? It can be sexual for heterosexual men and bi- and homosexual women. I can just as easily argue that a picture of two barechested men is sexually arousing to heterosexual women and bi- and homosexual men. Honestly,

I see no difference and no offense and would like to judge both safe.

But that is “poor judgement” according to Flickr and its community.

That is where the fun stops for me people. I can and will not support a

community which forces me to think of (some) human bodies as

offensive. In my mind this puts me back into the dark ages (Yes... that’s

way pre-enlightenment). The bottom line is: I don’t have a feeling for the

context in which the majority of this community apparently perceive my

work and frankly, I don’t want to develop such a feeling and become a

“good” judger in the eyes of Flickr. That would mean these arcane and

religously inspired views of nudity and sexuality are somehow the “good”views... they’re not, and you know it too.

Marking my nude photographs as restricted has also attracted a

completely different crowd of visitors to my stream, I used to get great

comments and contacts after posting them (safe, that is), but lately

it’s just contact requests and fav’s by “empty” accounts.

Not just that. The reluctance of flickr to stop treating its customers as if

they are kindergartners does not help and is a major reason for not

extending my pro account. That is offending.

Best,

Fred (and my mum, Uncle Bob, the children and that creepy guy).
