Do you have a special place in the Macarthur area? Whether it is your backyard or the bush, we want you to show us through photography. Tell us a story about how important your local environment and its native plants and animals are to you through images.

 

Keen photographers in the Macarthur area are invited to get snapping and enter the 2009 Living Macarthur Nature Photographic Competition, to showcase our local environment and its native animals and plants.

 

Entry categories

There are three age categories for people to enter:

* Open (18 years and over)

* Young People (12 to 17 years)

* Children (under 12 years).

 

Prizes

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in each age category. There will also be prizes for first, second and third place in the people’s choice category (which includes all age categories), sponsored by the Upper Georges River – Urban Sustainability Project.

 

The prizes for each award category are:

* 1st Place - $300 and 20x30 inch canvas print

* 2nd Place - $200 and 20x30 inch poster print

* 3rd Place - $100 and 11x14 inch poster print

 

How do I enter my photo?

Photos are to be a maximum of 8 x 10 inch (203mm x 254mm), and must be mounted on a black background which extends 50mm wide around the photo. Mounting boards are to be black cardboard, or foam core mounting board (which is readily available from photography and framing businesses).

 

Submit your entry with a completed entry form attached to it to one of the following:

* Campbelltown City Council Civic Centre, Cnr Queen and Broughton Streets, Campbelltown

* Camden Council - Narellan Administration Office (Customer Service), 19 Queen Street, Narellan

* Wollondilly Council Administration Building, 62-64 Menangle Street, Picton

Competition Awards Night

To celebrate all of the entries into the competition, the Living Macarthur Nature Photography Competition Awards presentation is being held at Ingleburn Community Centre. Awards will be presented to the winners in each of the prize categories. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet and hear from special guest presenter Dr Larry Vogelnest, Head Veterinarian at Taronga Zoo. Dr Vogelnest, who lives in the Macarthur area, will be talking about some of his experiences with the environment and its animals, and he will also share some of his photographs.
